2010 Flag Football Rules
1. Games will consist of two 20-minute halves, a ten (10) minute half time. Each team will receive two time-outs per half with no carry over.
2. Clock runs continuous throughout the game.
3. It is expected that everyone will act in a sportswomanlike conduct. No elbowing, cheap shots, blocking or other intentional contact is permitted.
4. General Rules
(a) Only seven players are allowed on the field for each team at any one time.
(b) A coin toss determines first possession.
(c) The offensive team takes possession of the ball at its 5-yard line and has three plays to cross midfield. Once a team crosses midfield, it has four plays to score a touchdown. If the offense fails to score, the ball changes possession and the new offensive team takes over possession.
(d) The offensive team must have at least five players on the line of scrimmage when the ball is snapped.
(e) You do not need to kickoff; either throws or kicks are acceptable.
(f) One flag must be removed to stop an offensive player.
5. Running
(a) Only direct handoffs behind the line of scrimmage are permitted; offense may use multiple handoffs.
(b) The player who takes the handoff can throw the ball from behind the line of scrimmage.
(c) Once the ball has been handed off, all defensive players are eligible to rush.
6. Receiving
(a) All players are eligible to receive a pass (including the quarterback if the ball has been handed off behind the line of scrimmage).
(b) Only one player is allowed in motion at one time.
(c) A player must have at least one foot inbounds when making a reception.
7. Passing
(a) Shovel passes are allowed.
(b) Interceptions change the possession of the ball at the point of interception.
8. Scoring
(a) Touchdown: 6 points
(b) Extra points: 1 point from 10 yard line
(c) Safety: 2 points
9. Rushing the Quarterback
(a) Rushing the quarterback is not allowed, except one blitz per 4 downs is permitted. The quarterback has 7 seconds to release the ball; if the quarterback does not release the ball within 7 seconds, there’s a loss of down.
(b) Defensive players may defend on the line of scrimmage.
(c) Once the ball is handed off, all defenders may go behind the line of scrimmage.
10. Blocking; Tackling
No blocking or tackling is allowed.
11 . Dead Balls
(a) Substitutions may be made on any dead ball or between downs.
(b) Play is ruled "dead" when:
-One of the ball carrier's flag is pulled
-Ball carries steps out of bounds
-Touchdown or safety is scored
-Ball carrier's knee hits the ground
12. Uniforms and equipment
(a) Cleats are allowed, except for metal spikes.
(b) All players must wear a protective mouth piece. |
