DIFFERENCES BETWEEN RECREATIONAL AND COMPETITIVE SOFTBALL
DTS offers both recreational and competitive softball. Recreational softball is played in late spring and during the summer, while competitive softball is played in the fall. The main differences between the two leagues are as follows:

Constitution of Teams |
Each individual is assessed to determine her talent level. Teams are then constituted to provide for parity amongst all teams. |
There are no assessments. Players that register are placed on teams without determination of talent level. |
Attendance/Commitment |
One practice and one game per week. While there is some limited flexibility, players are expected to attend a minimum of 75% of practices and 90% of games. |
A higher level of commitment is required. There will be 1-2 games per week and 1-2 practices per week. Players are expected to attend 90% of practices and 90% of games. Failure to comply with this policy may lead to a player being benched. |
Innings Played |
Every player should play at least 3 innings per game. However, if a player fails to consistently attend practices and/or games, she may be benched for one or more games in the discretion of the coach.
|
While it is the expectation of DTS that everyone will play, playing time will be allocated in the discretion of the coach. |
Batters |
Everyone bats even if they are not playing the field. |
A player will bat only if they are playing the field. The player will bat in the position that was previously occupied by the player for which she was substituted in the line-up. |
